Do not use flea collars or chemicals on IGs!

  • Italian Greyhounds have no body fat and therefore no way to absorb the toxins in flea products that might be safe for other breeds. Flea collars can kill an Italian Greyhound and only shampoos and dips with Pyrethrin (a natural, organic flea inhibitor) should be used. There are many new products on the market each year. Ask your rescue representative which of these products are acceptable.
  • Yard chemicals are very dangerous to an Italian Greyhound. A general rule of thumb to follow is to treat the Italian Greyhound around chemicals like you would children. If chemicals can’t be totally avoided, make sure they are thoroughly watered into the soil and completely dry before allowing the Italian Greyhound in the yard. Then, for a few days, leave the dog out only long enough for elimination.
